Report

The Oaks were the under dogs going into this Beds County Cup semi final, and knew they have to be at their best to stand a chance of reaching the final. The nerves got to them early on and the Eagles forced an early goal with Chris being wrong footed from a deflected shot on 3 minutes. The visitors kept pushing on, and but for some good defending from the home side it could of been a whole lot worse. On the 1/2 hour they doubled their tally for the day with a long range effort that bobbled in front of the keeper. Bedford added 2 more before half time with 1 long ball over the top and the fourth from a one on one with the keeper just before the break. The second half started well for Ickwell, they finally began to move the ball about like they know they can, however against the run of play Bedford added a fifth. The home side kept their heads up and got the consolation goal they deserved from some good work from substitute Kyle Johannesen latching on to a through ball, muscling past 2 defenders and finally beating the keeper. Ickwell never gave up, but it was Bedford who scored the last with 10 minutes to go, after Chris could only parry a sharp effort and it was followed in to make it 1-6 at the final whistle.Ickwell should take plenty of positives from their second half display into next weeks League Cup Semi Final away at Baldock.
